Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the umbrella term for the extremely rapidly growing field of medical AI. It ultimately breaks down to the evaluation of images using static and learning methods, also known as Radiomics.

Deep Learning (DL) is the main chapter of medical AI. It is based on learning systems that are based on a so-called neural network. This leads to the next term: Deep Neural Networks (DNN) are DL-Systems with many learning levels. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) are used in the learning processes of sectional imaging techniques (e.g. computer tomography and magnetic resonance imaging). The results can be described simply as segmentation and classification work.

ERS launched into the German-speaking market four years ago. Since then, both the medical and the technical processes have undergone constant further development. Customers name radiological quality, top friendliness, the immediate assessment of all findings by a second radiology specialist and the technical solutions as outstanding features of the teleradiological service offered.

Anita R., a specialist for surgery at a state hospital with an extensive catchment area, describes a typical service situation: “We got a polytraumatised motorcyclist in by helicopter, drove directly to CT, and on the way there we informed ERS. The ERS team had a brief and concise discussion with our MTRA team. While the examination was still running, ERS had a look at the first relevant images and I got the decisive call while the patient was being taken out of the CT room. That’s speed, that’s the quality we need here to make accurate decisions and take action”.

Gerd Schueller, founder of the company ERS, takes such words with great pleasure and at the same time refers to ever new ideas for the further development of teleradiological procedures. “We never stop, never stop questioning ourselves. This saves a lot of work for our secretariat and a lot of stress for us before the morning meetings with the clinicians,” says Christian L., head physician of a hospital with a rural care mandate.

Matthias M, senior physician at a Swiss regional private hospital adds: “We appreciate the fact that we can also use the teleradiological services of ERS infrequently. This gives us considerably more leeway in terms of management planning and duty rostering than before”.

We have developed a web application for our customers, which is available 24/7 in case of technical problems:
You can access our portal via the Internet using secure access and can transfer the study data to be evaluated from any source (modality, PACS…) simply by “drag & drop”. All communication can only be initiated from known IP addresses and is SSL and password protected. This way we achieve the highest security of our data communication.
Telerad serves us and you as a safety net. It is completely separated from our existing, daily proven teleradiology solution and is designed to be equally highly available (99.xx%).

Fortunately, it has rarely been used so far: between 2014 and 2017, the system was only needed twice. Whereby the underlying problems at the customer’s site were solved so quickly that even the transfer via the standard system could have been carried out within the time limits.
